French Toast
with
Maple Candied Pecans
ingredients:
- 3/4 cup oat milk or other plant-based milk
- 1 tbsp ground flax
- 1 heaping tbsp arrowroot powder
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 & 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp sea salt
- 3 tbsp real maple syrup
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 3 slices ezekiel 4:9 flax sprouted whole grain bread or other bread of your choice
- 3 tsp coconut oil or plant-based butter
- 1/4 cup pecan halves
preparation steps:
1. place oat milk, ground flax, arrowroot powder, baking powder, vanilla, cinnamon, salt, and 1 tbsp of maple syrup in a deep dish and whisk together well
2. heat up a non-stick skillet and add 1 tsp coconut oil or vegan butter
3. dip bread slices into milk mixture on both sides and add to hot skillet
4. place one slice in a skillet at a time and gently spoon about 1 tsp of milk mixture on top of slice - flip once when bottom side is golden and crispy - cook until both sides are golden and crispy
5. repeat with all three slices of bread whisking milk mixture each time and adding 1 tsp coconut oil or vegan butter to skillet for each slice
6. when golden brown, remove french toast from skillet and stack on a warmed plate
7. add pecans halves to hot skillet and toss constantly until pecans begin to toast slightly-then add remaining maple syrup to pecans in skillet and stir over heat, being careful not to burn, until syrup is bubbling and hot - immediately remove from heat and pour bubbling hot pecan syrup mixture over stacked French toast
8. serve warm - with added maple syrup if desired
