Tempeh "Steak" & Mushrooms

Tempeh Steak & Mushrooms


  • 1 block tempeh, sliced thinly on the diagonal
  • 1 large yellow onion, sliced
  • 2 to 3 cloves garlic, sliced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (separated)
  • 1/4 cup tamari
  • pepper to taste  

preparation steps:

1. place tempeh slices in 1 tbsp hot skillet, brown well on both sides, then remove from heat and set aside
2.add second tbsp oil to skillet and add onions - saute until almost done

3. add mushrooms and garlic and cook until mushrooms are tender and cooked through

4. add tempeh back to skillet and add tamari

5. reduce heat and simmer until tamari thickens slightly 

6. add pepper to taste

7. serve hot with mashed potatoes or rice and a green salad
